Holcim Lanka receives laurel from World CSR Congress

Further cementing the commitment made towards CSR and sustainability, Holcim Lanka received the Corporate Affairs Leadership award from the World CSR Congress at the presentation held in Mumbai, India recently. Holcim Lanka CSR Manager Dharshani Lahandapura received the award, in a short span of time since her appointment in April 2013. Holcim Lanka, the leading cement manufacturer and construction solutions provider in Sri Lanka has consistently made its commitment towards CSR and Sustainability known. Operating on a strong triple bottom line approach which incorporates benefits of profit alongside benefits to people and the planet, the organisation schedules an extensive CSR mission annually. The award from the World CSR Congress is endorsed by the World Federation of CSR and is judged on a number of competencies which include strategic perspective, risk management, team orientation and people management, networking, change agent, business acumen, achieving excellence, innovation, sustainability, direct social impact, ethics and governance, risk management, community involvement and environment. The award is worked out through a rigorous selection criteria which follows several stages. A specified cell on a regional level is designated the task of recommending nominees based on internal and external perceptions, stakeholder analysis and other assessments which meet the criteria. These nominations are then submitted to the jury panel comprised by distinguished professionals and a final judgment is arrived at. “As a company we (Holcim Lanka) has always strived to serve the community and the planet. It’s always good to win an internationally recognised award because it testifies that the work we do here in Sri Lanka is on par if not exceeding in comparison to the international arena. We’ve continued to triumph on global platforms and it’s something we pride ourselves on,” commented Holcim Lanka VP Sustainable Development & External Affairs Asela Iddawela. The ceremony which was hosted at Taj Lands End, Mubai, India was a gala affair graced by the presence of Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, Director General and CEO of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs of India. Many other awards were also given away at the event in a multitude of strata including social innovation, sustainability and global green awards.
