Geocycle as a pioneer in industrial waste management, part of a respectable corporate takes pleasure in extending their knowhow towards all its stakeholders as they focus on sustainable development. The training consists of theoretical knowledge and practical expertise certifying the transporters liberty to transport hazardous waste with the necessary awareness. Geocycle General Manager Randeewa Malalasooriya stated: “Safety is a number one priority for Geocycle, transporting hazardous material has not being taken into serious consideration as it can be a health risk when handling. “Geocycle is the only waste management company to possess hazardous waste transportation license authorised by Central Environmental Authority. Apart from the training these particular logistics workers will also be the only certified transport work groups to transport hazardous waste in Sri Lanka.” Geocycle, the professional waste management specialist, whose core business is the disposing industrial wastes, focused on training the drivers and helpers of the core business operation. However the potential of this knowledge sharing will commercialize in the near future. By addressing many waste management challenges faced by the industrial community, Geocycle is proud to serve the country’s drive for development through its services. From its inception in Sri Lanka 2003, Geocycle has disposed more than 300,000 metric tons of waste volumes, waste that would unless otherwise have been a burden to the environment. Having expanded its horizons gradually from non-hazardous wastes to also include hazardous wastes, the company continues its drive to offer peace of mind to the industrial community – ensuring that there will be no future environmental liabilities from the waste they generate. Geocycle further extended its capacity for providing additional services to its customers such as collection and transportation, branded product disposal, analytical services, total services solutions and consultancy services recently. The Institute of Human Resource Advancement (IHRA) is one of the institutes attached to the University of Colombo (IHRA-UOC) and is advancing according to the global and local developments through the “knowledge economy”. The main objective of educating the employed “work-groups” remains the same although the term “knowledge workers” was not used in the past when this Institute was established. However, present knowledge-worker category includes both the management categories as well as the traditional worker groups, and present objectives of the institute are applicable to advance any category of “knowledge workers.”
