David Bryant a Canadian businessman and founder of the Chinese Importing Co., has been involved doing business for more than 15 years in China. He has been running his own business since 2008 sourcing over 300 products from China, and currently achieving in excess of $ 1 million in revenue per year. He has formulated a unique course with a view to share his knowledge, experience and success in trading with China. This program will be delivered for the first time in Sri Lanka in collaboration with The Institute of Shipping and Logistics (IOSL).
The three main modules covered in the course are ‘Finding the Right and Profitable Product(s) to Import’, ‘Finding the Best Suppliers and Prices’ and ‘Transport and Logistics (Explicit to Chinese Suppliers)’. When it comes to doing business, China is vastly different from other countries. Therefore, a potential businessman needs to be equipped with many skills in order to be a success trading with China.
The learners who enrol for this course will study many aspects including the 3 Golden Importing Regions from China, How to Avoid Bad Products and Suppliers, the Actual Landed Cost, All About International Freight and Shipping, the Value of Quality and Pre-Shipment Inspection, How to Avoid Pitfalls and Importing Mistakes, Know Everything Before Paying for Products, and Language Challenges such as the use of ‘Chinglish’ or Not.
Those who enrol for the course can also purchase David Bryant’s book titled ‘How to Make $ 1 Million Importing from China’ at a nominal price. The course will be conducted under the expert guidance of David Bryant who will function as the Chief Instructor of the course. The course will also be supplemented by eight International Trade and Logistics modules delivered by the Institute of Shipping and Logistics (IOSL). These include ‘The Role of Shipping in International Trade, Import-Export Procedures, International Forwarding and Logistics, Basics in Marine Insurance, Maritime Commercial Practice, Types of Bills of Lading, Incoterms and Shipping Terms, and Air Cargo Transportation’.
The CEO of the Institute Gihan Warusavitarne stated that the above unique course is being launched to celebrate the 34th anniversary of the institute which was established in 1982. IOSL plans to conduct this three-month course on Sunday mornings/Wednesday evenings at Colombo 03 and in Galle on Saturdays. The institute is also considering conducting this course in Kandy.
The institute’s main training programs are the ‘Diploma in Shipping and Logistics’ and the ‘Certificate in Logistics Services, Freight Forwarding and Multi Modal Transport’ which is approved by the Director General of Merchant Shipping of the Ministry of Ports and Shipping, Sri Lanka. The next intakes of these courses are scheduled to commence on Sunday 26 June.
