Importance of professional and ethical management practices stressed

The Chartered Management Institute UK Sri Lanka Branch held its 12th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday 25 June at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo. The AGM was followed by cocktails and dinner at the Salon Anthurium amidst a large gathering of members and their guests. Rohitha Mendis, a Fellow member of CMI (FCMI), was unanimously re elected as President of the Sri Lanka Branch while Varuna Ratnaweera, FCMI and Sunimal Weerasooriya, FCMI were re-elected as 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President respectively. Malraj B. Kiriella, FCMI was re elected as Secretary while K. Dharmasena, FCMI was elected as the Treasurer for the second year. The newly-elected President of CML Sri Lanka Branch Rohitha Mendis in his address stressed on the importance of adopting best management practices in these challenging economic times. Mendis indicated that one could not expect professional management, if managers are not developed to lead. As CMI passionately stands for development of these much needed management and leadership skills, the Sri Lanka Branch will continue to promote professional management practices and ethical corporate governance through their knowledge sharing evening presentations in the future too, according to Mendis. Gihan S. Jayasinghe MCMI (Assistant Secretary) and M.M.S. Quvylidh FCMI (Assistant Treasurer) were elected to the Executive Committee along with Shakila Wijewardane MCMI, Murali Prakash FCMI, Chinthana Jayasekara MCMI, Dr. S. Udayakumar FCMI, Trevor Mendis FCMI, Panduka Weerasinghe MCMI, Nimal Mamaduwa FCMI and Sanjeeva Jayasinghe MCMI as the rest of the Ex Co members, who will be joined by Keethi Jayaweera, FCMI as Immediate Past President.
