TPM is a method which originated in Japan, and which is believed to have contributed to the very low breakdown rates of machinery in Japanese factories.

In fact the birth of the culture of looking after your machinery with tender loving care is believed to have originated in Japan soon after World War Two when most of the factories were destroyed, and the remaining factories had to produce without interruption.

TPM has many pillars, and Autonomous Maintenance, where the operators themselves are trained in basic maintenance work, leaving the maintenance team to focus on major breakdowns is considered an important pillar.
