International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka, Chairman Keerthi Gunawardane and the Executive Council in a statement extended its congratulations to Maithripala Sirisena for being the sixth Executive President of Sri Lanka. They extended their greetings for him to carry out successful and meaningful programs to benefit the business in Sri Lanka. The ICCSL greatly appreciated Sirisena’s commitment to good governance as indicated in his manifesto. ICC has been a pioneer in the business fight against corruption, issuing in 1977 its first version of the ICC Rules of Conduct to combat Extortion and Bribery. ICC is on the forefront in the development of ethics, anti-corruption and corporate responsibility advocacy codes and guidelines, providing a lead voice for the business community in this rapidly changing world. These ICC Rules are intended as a method of self-regulation by international business and constitute what is considered good commercial practice in fighting corruption. The ICC Rules on Combating Corruption respond directly to the G20’s call and to UNCAC’s requirement that business step up its efforts to fight against corruption. ICCSL said it extends its fullest cooperation and the support to the President in order to make our country a place to practice good governance for the benefit of the business as well as for our future generations. Further we will support in extending our knowledge in specific areas to implement good governance policies and rules for the economic development and prosperity of Sri Lanka.
