The Ambassador of Republic of Iraq Kahtan Taha Khalaf paid a courtesy call on Sri Lanka Export Development Board Chairman and Chief Executive Janaka Ratnayake to promote the 39th Baghdad International Fair 2012 to be held in Baghdad in November.

This fair is expected to attract thousands of foreign visitors and will be an ideal opportunity to Sri Lankan exporters to exhibit and promote their products in the Iraqi market.

Sri Lanka’s exports to Iraq have increased from US$ 22 million in 2002, to US$ 85 million in 2011 and are now aspiring to double the current value.

Exports of tea accounts for a major chunk of this value. The potential products exportable are coconut, rubber products, processed foods, cashew nuts, garments, porcelain and tableware and glassware, etc.
