ISMM celebrates 38th anniversary

THE Institute of Supply and Materials Management which was established in October 1972 celebrates its 38th Anniversary on 29 October with a Members’ Get together and Banquet with Dr. Anura Ekanayaka, Chairman, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce as the Chief Guest and Prof. Dayantha Wijeyesekera, Chairman, Tertiary and Vocational Education Commissions of the Ministry of Youth Affairs at the Grand Oriental Hotel.



ISMM is the leading specialised institution which fosters the professional development of Purchasing and Supply Chain function in Sri Lanka. It was registered as a Company under Section 19 of the Companies Ordinance in 1978 with the Registrar of Companies.

Recognition of its expertise led the ISMM to obtain the membership of the Organisation of Professional Associations in 1976 and ISMM was incorporated by Act of Parliament No. 3 of 1981. ISMM is a Charter Member of the International Federation of Purchasing & Supply Management based in the UK which is the world body encompasing 43 national associations having more than 200,000 professionals engaged in Purchasing and Supply Management. ISMM is also affiliated to the International Trade Centre (ITC) which is the technical co-operation agency of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the World Trade Centre (WTO) for operational, enterprise oriented aspects of trade development. ISMM is the one and only national body which posses the licence to promote the principles of international purchasing and supply chain management and authorised to conduct course of MLS - IPSCM training in Sri Lanka on behalf of ITC Geneva.

From the inception the main thrust of the Institute’s activities has been the training of supplies personnel at all levels. Training commenced at grass root level. Over 10,000 stores personnel, including storekeepers, stores managers and over 7000 officers engaged in shipping and wharf work, imports and export trade have successfully undergone training so far.

The core activities of the institute are education and training. Presently ISMM conducts training courses at middle management level, advance level and Diploma level.
