J.L. Morison celebrates 75 years with commemorative coffee table book

J.L. Morison Son & Jones (Ceylon) PLC, in commemoration of its Diamond Jubilee, released ‘A Chronicle of J.L. Morison Son & Jones (Ceylon) PLC’, a coffee table book narrating its origins and development through the years. The first copy of the book was presented to of J.L. Morison Son & Jones (Ceylon) PLC former Chairman Reggie Abeyawira, who served the company for six decades and Hemas Holdings PLC Chairman Husein Esufally by J.L. Morison (Ceylon) has resiliently faced challenges and leveraged on the business opportunities that emerged over the past seven and a half decades. We feel fortunate to be part of a Company whose work contributes to the health and wellness of Sri Lankans, and are proud to share the Company’s heritage through this book,” said J.L. Morison’s Managing Director Trihan Perera. “In our attempt to condense seventy five years of growth into this chronicle, we interviewed many long standing employees and poured over scores of documents from the Company archives. We do not claim to have recorded a comprehensive and detailed history, but have attempted to extract the essence of the Company. We hope this book is a fitting homage to one of Sri Lanka’s cherished organisations,” said Nishelli Perera who spearheaded the effort to make this book a reality. Highlighted by various photographs and stories of and by the stalwarts of the Company, the book is a fascinating insight into a business that has grown to be a household name. The book was designed by leading design house Optima Designs. “We are proud to be a part of this project. The team worked tirelessly to ensure that this was a fitting tribute to a legendary icon in the industry” said Anjum Cader, Director/CEO of Optima Designs. The book begins with the origins and development of the parent company, J.L. Morison (UK), which has been gleaned from a publication by the parent company in 1981, in celebration of the Centenary of J.L. Morison (UK). Subsequent sections entail the origins, evolution and growth of J.L. Morison (Ceylon) through troughs and peaks. The book is filled with anecdotal stories from long-standing employees and excerpts from company documents which record the Company’s history and weave it into the tapestry of Sri Lanka’s socio-economic environment over the past seven and half decades.
