J.S. Apparels – Kanadana has been awarded one of the most coveted specialist quality certificates – GAP – that could be achieved in the apparels industry for high quality certification in the world. This certification is a rare honour won by J.S. Apparels for the Sri Lankan apparel industry.

J.S. Apparels is the premier institution among Sri Lanka’s mainstream apparel organisations, specialising in cutting and finishing of apparels. Renowned for creating a very conducive atmosphere for the workforce to operate in, by offering high wages while not receiving any complaints about workers’ rights violations, J.S. Apparels provides the workforce with facilities and conditions to work without undue pressure. In awarding the GAP Certification to J.S. Apparels, all these factors were taken into account.

Expressing his thoughts on this honour bestowed upon the company, Jesman Welgama, the Chairman/Managing Director of J.S. Apparels said: “Indeed, it is troublesome to cut bulky fabrics and fleecing fabrics, as is the operation of stripe machines and cutting machines. However, if these were not done to quality standards, they will not be suitable for export.

“In our institution, we have a specialist workforce that can cut and finish any difficult fabrics entrusted to us. The mainstream apparel companies in Sri Lanka such as Hela Clothing, Brandix, Bodyline, Hirdaramani, Omega Line, CC Lanka etc. are well aware of this fact. The cutting and finishing of the products of these companies are entrusted to us at J.S. Apparels. We deliver their cutting and finishing jobs entrusted to us on time to the quantities to exact quality demanded.”

He noted that if the garments manufacturer cannot ship the goods on time, they have to resort to airlifting them at a greater expense – a costlier mode. Failure to deliver the order on time will lead to rejection of the complete order. Therefore, the manufacturer must have their total order finished on time.

“This is where our service becomes essential. By working with us, you are assured of high quality work. Have no doubt about it! By now, one of the main stream apparels manufacturers of Sri Lanka – Bodyline – has entrusted to us their cutting in entering in to an agreement with us!”

The workers at the J.S. Apparels say that they are receiving wages equivalent to those received by serving in any garments factory abroad. J.S. Apparels’ head office and the factory are located at Nedurupitiya, Kandana. They have two more factories at Seeduwa and Agalawatte.
