Named a top insurer in the Marine category Janashakthi excelled at the recently-held Global Commerce Excellence Awards, winning an award in the Services sector at a glittering ceremony held at the Galadari Hotel. Janashakthi was also named one of the best international trade performers in the Marine Insurance category, a significant achievement given the fierce competition in the sector. “The concept of this awards scheme is that there are no applications involved. Private and public entities are selected on merit basis from state institutions such as the Export Development Board, Sri Lanka Ports Authority and the Airport and Aviation Services. The shortlist is then handed over to the Central Bank Governor,” said Shipper’s Academy Colombo CEO Rohan Masakorala. “In this way we can see the actual performance of these companies and identify who is doing a good job. Janashakthi was among the top four in the insurance industry,” he added, congratulating Janashakthi for their excellent performance. The Global Commerce Excellence Awards is a prestigious, biennial event which rewards those who have made large scale contributions towards GDP growth in the global commerce industry. Organised jointly by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the Shippers Academy Colombo, a leading institute established for training skills, capacity building and consulting in the field of global commerce and logistics, the Awards recognise excellence across multiple sectors. Over 100 awards have been handed out in 2014 and on previous occasions to a range of entities and individuals, including exporters, banks, brands and investors. “In business, it is important to have a contingency plan, as disaster could strike at any time.
