In the globalised world we live in, both developing and industrialised nations are always exploring new opportunities to enhance trade and economic ties with other countries and the economic policies adopted by these nations guide the destinies of their business organisations. From time to time, the economic policies have to be strategically aligned due to various issues and challenges, resulting in businesses having to look for new opportunities and markets. Japan, which is currently the world’s third largest economy, is faced with a similar situation and is increasingly looking to promote trade and business with other countries especially the developing world. Taking this into consideration, the Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association (HIDA), Japan, has launched a new Business Development Initiative through the HIDA Research Institute (HRI), which is expected to significantly increase the business partnerships between Japanese commercial and trade sectors and HIDA’s global membership, which is its alumni network. Fostering coexistence This is expected to foster coexistence between Japan and its global partners, surpassing borders and helping to connect companies with companies and people with people. This initiative has opened up business opportunities for JASTECA and its members, which is a part of HIDA’s global alumni network. HIDA Japan, formerly known as the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS), is an organisation that is dedicated to uplifting the standards of human resources in developing countries by promoting technical cooperation through training. Established in 1959, HIDA’s aim is to promote friendly relations and contribute to the economic growth of developing nations by conducting training programs that will impart knowledge and skills to participants about world renowned Japanese management systems. Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JASTECA), is an alumni association of scholarship holders from Sri Lanka who have been trained by HIDA Japan. During its history which spans almost three decades, JASTECA has become a word synonymous for excellence in HRD among most established corporates, government institutions and SMEs by enabling organisations to acquire expertise in Japanese management systems and the transfer of Japanese technology to local Industries. To date, over 3500 Sri Lankans have been trained in Japan on a multitude of management disciplines which has benefitted most of the country’s leading industries. Business Promotion Initiative HIDA has launched its business promotion initiative to assist Japanese companies that are eagerly looking for new countries and locations to invest and expand their overseas business partnerships to stimulate the Japanese economy. The HIDA Research Institute (HRI), Japan, which is extensively engaged in promoting Japanese business interests globally, has identified HIDA’s alumni membership as one of HIDA’s greatest strengths in achieving this objective. HRI aims to use its expertise to help companies/HIDA alumni members to encounter various challenges such as locating Japanese business partners, mitigating cultural differences and language barriers, gathering information, employing and training personnel and localising management. This new initiative which has gained wide acceptance among the Japanese Business community has given rise to a win-win situation, where HIDA’s Alumni societies such as JASTECA and its members will benefit immensely. It will enable Japanese business partners to identify among JASTECA members potential business partners/opportunities which will lead to face to face business meetings in Japan and Sri Lanka. Since this could open up avenues to form business partnerships with Japanese counterparts it is an opportunity not to be missed by JASTECA members. Those interested are kindly requested to contact the JASTECA Secretariat or email [email protected] to obtain further information.  The deadline for submitting information is 7 November 2013.
