JDC Printing Technologies Ltd., a subsidiary of JDC Group, launched the HP Indigo 5600 Digital Press for the local market in Sri Lanka recently. The two-day event commenced with a seminar featuring guest speakers from HP Indigo India and Singapore on Friday, 6 September, at the Cinnamon Grand, followed by an open house at the JDC Head Office. Speaking at the launch, J.D. Cyril, Managing Director of JDC Group, said: “In today’s dynamic and highly competitive world, the HP Indigo Digital press 5600 will open users to new business opportunities with its ability to produce a broader range of applications, thus, enabling them to increase their profitability. Through their incomparable digital offset and extremely high versatility and productivity, the press sets a benchmark for unparalleled digital, commercial and photo printing.” A. Appadurai, Country Manager India & Sri Lanka HP Indigo and Inkjet Press Solutions, said: “Though this technology was initially proven to be extremely successful in the commercial, publishing, direct mail and labels segments of the printing industry, today, it has also established itself as the market leader in the photo printing industry and was even rated as the best photo printer in the world by Spencer Labs, a leading lab for print quality rating. HP Indigo’s success can be largely attributed to the liquid ElectroInk combined with the Digital Offset technology that produces amazing photo prints quality and the ability to print on both sides of the media, almost in every type of media.” Key features of HP Indigo 5600 The HP ElectroInk is available in an increasing range of colours including standard process colours (cyan, magenta, yellow, black), HP IndiChrome wide gamut 6 and 7 colour set that incorporates orange, violet and green and HP IndiChrome Spot Colours that is a mix from a set of 11 base inks; matching spot colours including most of the PANTONE colour range. An Enhanced Productivity Mode (EPM) allows users to increase colour productivity by 33% and lowering costs by omitting the black in separation. Using EPM, the press can still print a very broad colour gamut including black, at a speed of 90 pages per minute (ppm) for colour and monochrome speed of 272ppm. Alternatively, the press prints 68 four-colour A4 ppm and 136 two-colour A4 ppm. HP Indigo Electroink UV Red that fluoresces under ultraviolet light and HP Electroink White that can be combined with Colourlogic’s Process Metallic Colour System to give the users the ability to print metallic effects and special effects. Quality, uncontested The high quality photo prints are created using HP Indigo’s inimitable printing technology: liquid electrophotography (LEP). This printing process uses HP Indigo ElectroInk, which contains electrically charged minute ink particles dispersed in liquid and guided by strictly controlled electrical fields resulting in high resolution, uniform gloss, sharp imaged edges and very thin image layers. The very thin image layer is almost transparent, thereby exposing the natural attributes of the paper for a fine photo finish. Consequently, the HP Indigo printing method is able to deliver high quality and sharp images with a wider and more accurate colour gamut that exceeds the quality achieved by competing digital printing technologies. Beyond the four process colours In the case of high-end professional photo quality, HP Indigo can also offer light cyan and light magenta inks that aids users in providing an improved image with smoother transition and saturated colour, thereby creating a photorealistic appearance that enhances photo-specialty products. Furthermore, the HP Indigo’s exclusive ElectroInk Light Black can be used as a spot colour in 2 colour printing, thus, delivering high-quality black-and-white photo applications and doubling the productivity compared to printing black and white with a CMYK process. Substrate versatility HP’s Indigo Digital Offset Color process is compatible with more than 2500 certified substrates- surfaces and thickness than any other digital printing process. These include glossy matt and textured papers, card stock, plastic, film, metals, dark, transparent, metallic, paperboard, PVC, PET, Teslin, PC and recycled media etc. Durability A print permanence study released by Willhelm Imaging Research (WIR) – the industry’s most respected authority on digital print permanence – indicates HP Indigo photo prints were rated as 30 years “displayed prints framed under glass” (exceeding Kodak silver halide rating) and rated above 200 years for “Album/Dark Storage” outperforming the silver – halide photos which have a lower album storage of less than a 100 years.
