Kelaniya Uni. Accounting Forum on 8 December

After seven successive and successful forums, the Accounting Forum 2011, organised by the Accountancy Students’ Association University of Kelaniya (ASAK), is to be held for the eighth consecutive time on 8 December at Ceylon Intercontinental Hotel Colombo from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Accounting Forum 2011 is an annual event organised at a grand level, by the ASAK which is a leading student body in the university representing the Department of Accountancy.

Each year ASAK comes across the challenge of organising a forum that is superior to the last. Thus ASAK has always been much considerate in designing the forum in unique manner, adding new features to it, with the hope of giving a fresh and a valuable experience to all the participants.

The major objective of the forum is to strengthen industry academia relationship. More specifically it is to enhance the link between the undergraduates of the department and the corporate sector.

This showcases the keen desire and the enthusiasm of the undergraduates in the department to blend with and to get a wide exposure to the corporate sector, to which they will soon be stepping in to.

Accordingly, the Accounting Forum has proven to be an excellent opportunity to all the participants including undergraduates of the Department of Accountancy, academic staff of the department, representatives from other departments in the university and other universities as well as top level personalities representing the corporate sector, namely Ranjith Page (CEO, Cargills Ceylon PLC), Ranjitha Pandithage (Chairman/CEO and MD DIMO Sri Lanka), Rajendra Theagarajah (CEO and MD, Hatton National Bank), Y. Kanagasabhai (Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers), Samantha Kumarasinghe (founder and CEO, Nature Secrets) and Otara Del Gunawardana (Founderfand CEO, ODEL) to learn through valuable experiences and immense knowledge of industry experts.

Accounting Forum 2011 is centred on the theme ‘Winning the Business Excellence’. The main reason behind selecting and allowing a depth discussion on this theme is with the intention of rendering undergraduates with basic knowledge that is most needed in building their career and in succeeding in the business world.

Following the theme, presentations by the undergraduates of the department, a panel discussion with the participation of industry experts and questions and answers session are to be taken place on the date of the forum. At the same time the issue of the eighth volume of the journal ‘Achiever Accountant,’ which is the journal of the department, will also take place. The journal consists of a whole set of precious articles provided by eminent personalities in the corporate sector.
