Korea willing to assist Sri Lanka to develop fishing industry

The Government of South Korea is willing to extend fully-pledged support to promote the Fisheries Industry in Sri Lanka, the Korean Ambassador to Colombo, Won-sam Chang has informed the State Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Dilip Wedaarachchi, according to the Fisheries Ministry.

At a meeting with the Sri Lankan minister recently, the Korean envoy has discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of fisheries.

Ambassador Won-sam Chang said that his country is willing to extend all support in the form of knowledge, training and technological facilities towards promoting the further development of the  fisheries sector in Sri Lanka.

The minister pointed out the necessity of establishing a training collage saying that it is important to attract the nations young into this sector by imparting knowledge and providing modern training so that the sector could be further developed using modern technology.

The Korean Ambassador appreciated the facts presented, and the enthusiasm and commitment of the State Minister of Fisheries, and said that he would give preference, towards establishing a “Fisheries College” to produce professionals in the fisheries sector who could compete in the world fisheries industry. He suggested that such a discussion should be made with the Institute.

The Ambassador has formally handed over an official invitation of the Korean Government to State Minister Dilip Wedaarachchi to visit Korea to study the Fisheries Sector in that country.
