Targets Rs. 1 b turnover for 2015 in tandem with boom in tourism

Laksala has recorded its highest seasonal showroom turnover of Rs. 69.1 million in April since the year 2011. Furthermore, Laksala was successful in achieving its highest ever turnover of Rs. 3.61 million per day in a single showroom in its 50-year history.

Laksala Chairman and CEO Hasitha Tillekeratne attributed this remarkable performance to the increased patronage by a cross section of

local clientele, with a contribution of 68% to the monthly sales revenue, who were highly conscious of the quality, reliability, value for money, customer service and care offered by Laksala.

The Chairman further stated that, Laksala’s corporate image and brand values are inter-related since it always offers the best quality products at an affordable price. He added that, spurred by the successful New Year and Vesak promotions, Laksala intends to continue its special promotional campaign to coincide with upcoming Ramazan (Edul Fithr), Hadji (Idul Alha), Deepavali festivals and Christmas.

Laksala has 14 modern showrooms in strategic locations carrying over 20,000 quality guaranteed items; all manufactured by our Sri Lankan craft entrepreneurs, keeping alive the traditional skills whilst infusing modern designs.

With the expanding tourism industry, there is an enormous potential for the handicraft and gift and souvenir industry to grow rapidly in the future. Having this in mind, Laksala has planned the establishment of new sales outlets in places of tourist interest such as Pasikudah, entrance to Yala National Park, Wilpattu National Park, Haggala Gardens and the Negombo Beach area etc.

Laksala remains the largest, most experienced and only state-owned business chain in the gift and souvenir category. In keeping with the vision to retain the leadership in the gift and souvenir market in Sri Lanka, Laksala plays a pivotal role in fostering SMEs by showcasing local skills and talents through innovative products that appeal to international requirements. With tourist arrivals targeted at two million, Laksala is confident to achieve its target of over Rs. 1 billion turnover in 2015.
