Lankan team at ITC’s MLS-SCM Global Network Round Table 2011 in Malaysia

Institute of Supply & Materials Management of Sri Lanka participated in the Modular Learning System - Supply Chain Management Global Network Round Table Conference organised by the International Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 6 - 8 April 2011.

The delegation was lead by President of ISMM Danesha Perera along with Anil Ponweera (Vice President), I. G. Perera (Vice President) , Lt. (S) Priyangani Jayasundara, Gayan Perera, Visuddha Piyathilake and Chamara Kumarathunga.

The theme was “Sustainable Supply Chain” and there were more than 70 participants from 31 countries from all over the world. Talking to the media President Danesha Perera said that it was a very informative and cross functional conference. All members represented equally participated very enthusiastically.

Discussions were based on Buying for better world, How to build sustainable supply chains, The sustainable agriculture initiatives, Measuring sustainability in public procurement, Certification of ethical companies, Supplier development and the importance of diversification, How packaging responds to the environmental and sustainability challenge and the best practices from the MLS network.

Gayan Perera of Fonterra Group from Sri Lanka became one of the success story winners for 2011 along with another five participants worldwide and was awarded a certificate for his achievement. The certificate to ISMM was received by Danesha Perera - President ISMM.

The cultural show conducted by the participants representing the countries was one of the most outstanding events outside the normal programme and it gave the opportunity to all the countries to show their independent identity by wearing their national costumes and singing local songs etc,.

ISMM continuously conducts the ‘Training-of-Trainers Workshops’ for their trainers and ensure that they are continuously trained to meet the challenges of the training arena. Perera said that he intends to market the MLS – SCM programmes in the coming year with new strategies to attract students to follow the programmes. He reiterated that it is designed for  the experts from ITC and students will certainly benefit by following the programme. Further he mentioned that those who complete the study programme successfully are eligible to apply for the prestigious corporate membership of the Institute of Supply Materials Management.
