Lankem Chemicals Ltd., a subsidiary of Lankem Ceylon PLC  recently inaugurated its brand new chemical and  thinner plant at Sapugaskanda.

This facility consists of an underground petro chemical storage facility, along with an inter-connected blending and drumming plant, with a project cost of more than Rs. 120 million. With this investment Lankem becomes the first and only chemical manufacturing company in Sri Lanka to have a facility of this nature, and brings it on par with all international standards.

Lankem Ceylon PLC Director Ruwan T. Weerasinghe said, “After months of hard work, we are proud and delighted with this achievement and the outcome of the facility. The first phase of the new factory consists of a warehouse which exceeds more than 4000 sq ft of secure storage, a modern blending plant as well as a drum yard with a storage capacity of more than 5000 drums at any given time. This translates into a 300% increase of our current capacity. With minimum human involvement from storage to blending and packing, this plant is one of the safest in the country. Lankem thus demonstrates its commitment to the utmost safety needs of not only its employees but also the environment.”

“With this new facility, we have also created a new standard for the industry in Sri Lanka. It enables us to supply customers islandwide with quality chemicals that are manufactured and blended to international quality standards,” he added.

Lankem Chemical is the largest importer of solvents representing world industry giants like Dupont and Akzo Nobel, as well as the largest manufacturer of thinner in Sri Lanka.
