LAUGFS Gas was awarded the ‘National Quality Award’ for the medium scale category at the 18th Annual National Quality Awards Ceremony, which is the highest honour for quality and excellence in organisational performance in Sri Lanka. The Chief Guest at this event was Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.

Sri Lanka was the first South Asian country to open its economy in 1978 and in its quest to be globally competitive and world class a Government-led initiative supported by the private sector was needed. Hence SLNQA was established in the year 1995 as an annual award to recognise organisations for performance excellence and quality achievement.

The award is based on the Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award of USA and implemented by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI). The Malcolm Baldrige quality criterion is also used in more than 80 countries as a performance excellence model. The SLNQA requires applicants to show achievement and improvement in seven areas such as excellence in leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, measurement, analysis, knowledge management, human resource focus, process management, and business/organisational performance.

The purpose of the SLNQA program is to recognise quality achievement in individual companies, to share successful quality strategies, and to promote quality awareness among the nation’s businesses. The SLNQA is the mark of distinction to be recognised by not just colleagues but by clients and companies and to be recognised for the commitment to excellence in service to clients and industry.

Receiving the SLNQA is a tremendous honour said LAUGFS Gas CEO Ashan De Silva. “It represents the culmination of an 11-year journey focused on performance excellence, which has been ingrained in all we do. It is a testament to our employee’s dedication to excel in every aspect of our business and deliver unmatched value to our customers and I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of all stakeholders who demand nothing but the best.”

LAUGFS as one of the youngest companies to achieve this prestigious award indicates how within a briefspan of time an entrepreneurially developed business elevates itself to the next phase of a professionally-driven enterprise.

Truly a Sri Lankan accomplishment of remarkable leadership and great vision, which reinforces and promotes the motto “Sri Lanka can”.
