Mackwoods Energy PLC recently installed and commissioned on a turnkey basis power plant and a control systems at the LAYA Safari Boutique Hotel Yala.

The 0.5MW thermal power plant coupled to an automatic synchronisation system was designed for parallel running of the generators based on load. Whilst saving on capital cost on investment in large capacity generators by parallel interfacing generators, Laya Safari would enjoy substantial savings in their operational and maintenance costs as the Power Drive Automatic Synchronization System (PASS) will ensure that power will be delivered as per the required load at that moment.

This would also help to reduce their costs of energy consumption/fuel. The sound too has been substantially reduced through a unique sound attenuator design thus reducing noise pollution in keeping with the environmental norms. The plant will automatically start when there is a grid power outage and supply power to the hotel, in less than five seconds whilst synchronisation panel automatically controls the load sharing between two generators when in parallel operation.

Parallel operation also helps to reduce costly break down time, maintenance costs and customer dissatisfaction. The frequency and voltage control achieved in defined categories of ISO: 8528 standard is similar to a single genset operation depending on the load level demand. This facility works economically and helps to save on energy and fuel consumption and reduce generator wear and tear. When the grid power is established, the system will automatically transfer the grid power to the load and generators will shut off automatically after a few minutes.

Mackwoods Energy has also provided such PASS solution systems including automatic transfer switching to Airtel, Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, UNICEF, GTZ, CECB, general and teaching hospitals island wide to name a few.
