LEGO, the world’s best known and widely used building block toy, is planning to stage a series of Building Events that not only attract children but also enable them to create things in a positive manner. The first LEGO Building Event was held on 25 January at Majestic City; it was a fun-filled day of activity for both the parents and the children who took part. Over 140 children came to the Majestic City to participate in LEGO’s biggest event of the year, said Yohan Zaird, Business Development Manager for LEGO at Kiddies & Toys International (KTI). “LEGO is a unique toy because it empowers the child to build and create things, promoting imagination and the freedom to engage in constructive playing,” said Zaird. “When parents are worried about the children spending too much watching TV or engaged in computer games, LEGO gives the children the ability to engage in creating things in a positive manner that involves a lot of thinking and interaction.” He adds that the LEGO Building Event has become a platform of spending quality time for parents and children who have bonded as they work together as a team to create the LEGO policeman in the Building Event. “There was tremendous co-operation and activity between the participating parents and the children as they completed a policeman using LEGO. The LEGO policeman that is built by each participating team is four feet tall and takes 17,000 LEGO bricks to complete it – a whole team is required to put it together and this is the first time such a huge event is being staged in Sri Lanka. To us at KTI, it was great to watch the parents and the children enjoying a toy that teaches them to play together in a positive manner.” KTI believes that the tremendous success generated by the first LEGO event will extend to the entire sic such events that will be staged. The winner who gets the top prize in all six events will go on to the Grand Draw and will get free tickets to watch the LEGO Movie at the Majestic Cinema with his whole class. The competitions include the best freelance building and the most creative building according to the age category. There are plenty of prizes and free gifts for the participants while the parents can take part in a business card raffle draw. That includes a chance to be invited to the LEGO Movie premier at the Majestic Cinema as well and the opportunity to enter a ticket draw to win tickets for the movie. LEGO, as a global brand based in Denmark, has been used by millions of children around the world and continues to be in the lead as an intelligent toy that helps develop creativity in children. In Sri Lanka, LEGO is represented solely by KTI and enjoys tremendous popularity among children as elsewhere in the world.
