LG Electronics swings to Q3 profit on surprise handset result

LG Electronics Inc, Korea’s renowned manufacturer of electronics and home appliances, swung to a surprise third-quarter profit, as its mobile phone business reported a welcome return to the black on a stronger product line-up.



LG’s July to September operating profit recorded 221 billion won ($200.3 million) from a 32 billion won loss a year ago, above consensus forecast of 172 billion won by 13 analysts surveyed by Reuters.

LG is the world’s third largest mobile phone manufacturer and the global leader in mobile touch phones sales skyrocketed in the third quarter of this year as unprecedented demand in Asia lifted its global market share.

The CEO of LG’s mobile communications has stated that the company is aiming to maintain a steady market share and become one of the largest players in the mobile field.
