This five-day event consisted of a wide range of activities from exciting and creative exhibitions through to musical and film shows, cultural shows, drama and fashion shows, making it an unforgettable experience for visitors.
Litro Gas Executive Chairman Shalila Moonesinghe said, “As the island’s national LPG supplier, we are pleased to co-sponsor the Galle Season 2015 together with the Southern Governors Secretariat and be a partner of this worthy-cause.”

An auto show including a parade of classic cars, a show from the famous armed forces including military band displays, spice and confectionary markets, and various other exhibits such as art, craft, antique, photography, museums, traditional lace making, gem and jewellery, puppet shows, books, brought the ancient Galle city to life.
Governor Southern Province Dr. Hemakumara Nanayakkara said, “Funds raised by Galle Season 2015 will be in aid of restoration and preservation of Galle Library Fort, the oldest library in Sri Lanka established in 1832 and for renovation and development of the proposed educational and cultural complex at the old post office building in Galle Fort.”
Galle is considered as the oldest trade city of Sri Lanka where in the ancient times traders from all over the world stepped in to promote international trade and diplomatic relations due to the strategic positioning of its harbour and port. The city has a long and rich history coupled with the gift of nature, and has produced many intellectuals, national heroes, poets and writers. Historic records show that Galle Season has been a gracious annual event about 70 years ago. This time around, after decades, the present Governor of Southern Province Dr. Hemakumara Nanayakkara decided to bring back the event, with participation and support also from private organisations.
Galle Season is organised by the Governors Secretariat of the Southern Province, Southern Provincial Council and Galle Library Fort with the District Secretary of Galle, the Chief Secretary of southern province and the mayor of Galle saving in the main operations board, under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
