The Central Bank of Sri Lanka launched a special loan scheme to promote the production of liquid milk and develop milk related products such as ice cream, yoghurt and curd.
The loan scheme introduced as the large scale milk production loan scheme will generate loans for grass cultivation related to cattle management, construction of cattle sheds, transport of liquid milk and implements used to obtain milk.
Among the special features of this loan scheme is an eight percent interest rate per annum, five year repaying period, six month maximum relief period for repaying the loan, entitlement of obtaining a loan up to Rs. 25 million and the advantage of obtaining the loans through any commercial bank in Sri Lanka.
A series of programs are already being conducted for dairy farmers in Galle, Matara, Hambantota and Monaragala Districts.
Incentives are provided through bank officials, veterinary surgeons and other government officials.
