Local meter company measures satisfaction

Manufactures 30, 000 machines each month and has been able to completely meet local demand says CEB

Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) yesterday stated that they have been able to meet local demand for electricity meters through a home grown company producing over 30,000 machines each month. In a press release the Power and Energy Ministry announced that the local meter manufacturing company, Ante Leco, has managed to sell 355, 000 meters under the guidance of the CEB last year and the company was hoping to produce over 392, 400 in 2011.

“This measure was taken on the advice of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. It was noted by Minister Champika Ranawaka that there is a large demand for meters among local consumers and that importing them, as was done earlier, was a costly business. It was also not possible for meters to be imported to meet the growing demand and the result was long delays in providing connections to consumers. Therefore, a local company was formed to take over and produce meters that are efficient and available at a reasonable price,” it said.

The statement observed that not only has the production of meters locally allowed the CEB to meet the demand but has also managed to save millions that would otherwise have been used to import these meters. The entire demand of the local consumers have been met according to the statement.
