The first copy of the new edition of the Malalasekera Dictionary was presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa by M.D. Gunasena & Co. Deputy Managing Director Rajiv Gunasena at the Colombo International Book Fair 2014
The new edition of The Malalasekera Dictionary was launched at the Colombo International Book Fair recently. This sixth edition has been extensively revised and greatly expanded by a panel of distinguished scholars – Professor Kusuma Karunaratne, Dr. Sadagomi Coperahewa and Dr. Lakshmi de Silva to meet the needs of a technologically advanced and computer literate public and is in par with all international dictionaries.

The Malalasekera Dictionary was first published in 1948 by M.D. Gunasena and Company Limited. It played an invaluable role in providing skills in English for the educated young of a new nation. The importance of this pioneering work has been vouched for by the fact that its sales far exceed those of any other dictionary published in Sri Lanka.
