M. D. Gunasena partners Colleen Pencil Thailand

M.D. Gunasena, the leading publisher, printer and bookseller, partnered with Colleen Pencil Thailand Ltd., an innovative manufacturer of colour products, at a launch ceremony held at the M.D. Gunasena Auditorium in Colombo. The inauguration ceremony was held under the patronage of Kala Keerthi Sybil Wettasinghe, Rajiv Gunasena – Deputy Managing Director of M.D. Gunasena and Kasem Boonlertvanich – Director of Colleen Pencil Thailand Ltd. and other special invitees. M. D. Gunasena was appointed as the authorised distributor and dealer in Sri Lanka for the Colleen brand. Commemorating the literacy month and the centenary anniversary M.D. Gunasena together with Colleen organised an art competition titled ‘Roo’ for 150 students from Colombo schools under four age categories, enabling students and parents to experience the Colleen quality and difference through product usage. Boonlertvanich  said: “We are happy to be in Sri Lanka introducing the Colleen brand, and we look forward in providing a platform for students to be inspired through creativity and colour.” Through the partnership M.D. Gunasena will be introducing new product innovations including a series of colour pencils ranging from six to 60 quantity, comprising single tip and double tip (twin head colour pencils) variants and the launch of a water colour pencil for the first time in Sri Lanka. High quality pastels, crayons, pencils and erasers were also introduced to the market. The new range of Colleen products will be available through all the M.D. Gunasena retail outlets and the wholesale market. Rajiv Gunasena said: “The tie up with Colleen Thailand further exemplifies our commitment towards introducing the latest innovation, with the best quality, for a competitive price, enabling our customers to be able to experience international standards in this era of change.” Established in 1989, the Colleen factory is located in the area of Bangplee industrial estate kilometres from Bangkok. The company specialising in pencil manufacturing, including high quality coloured pencils, fancy pencils, drawing pencils and mechanical pencil lead products. A total 60 million pencils are manufactured by Colleen Thailand annually predominantly exporting to South East Asian and European markets. M.D. Gunasena since its incorporation in 1913 has become synonymous with education in Sri Lanka with 17 outlets Island wide. For more than a century, the company remains at the forefront of the publishing industry and literature in Sri Lanka.
