Macbertan first company to be certified for ISO 50001:2011

Macbertan Ltd., , manufacturer of McFoil heat insulation, was certified for Energy Management System ISO 50001:2011 and is the first company in Sri Lanka to receive this certificate from Sri Lanka Standards Institution.

Macbertan is the pioneer and a market leader in the manufacturing of heat insulation product category in Sri Lanka, and McFoil is one of the Company’s strongest brands alongside their other successful brands Mc Foam and Mc Wrap.  

Macbertan is a joint venture between McLarens Holdings Limited and Alliance Finance Company and the certificate was awarded to Director of Macbertan (Private) Limited and the Group Managing Director of McLarens Group of Companies Rohan De Silva, by the Director General of SLSI Dr. L.N. Senaweera at a Ceremony held at Jaic Hilton Residencies on 8 November 2012.

Macbertan is already certified for ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems, ISO 14001:2004 Environment Management Systems and OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.

Macbertan having recognised the escalating energy costs and the countries need for energy conservation initiated to introduce ISO 50001:2011 in order to reduce energy consumption at their manufacturing plant in Ja-Ela.

The Energy Policy of the Company was put in place, and a steering committee comprising of five engineers from Macbertan technical team were appointed to implement and achieve the company’s energy saving objectives.

Independent energy audits were carried out to look into areas where there was significant energy consumed and needed to be addressed. An action plan was put into place by the steering committee who were responsible for achieving the targets required for certification.

Sri Lanka Standards Institution together with the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority conducted the final external audit on 5 September 2012 and Macbertan become the first company to be certified by Sri Lanka Standards Institution.  

As confirmed by the Managing Director Ramani Ponnambalam Macbertan Manufacturing Operation is already experiencing Energy savings.
