Macksons Holdings appoints Milfer Makeen as Chairman

Macksons Holdings Group of Companies appointed Milfer Makeen, son of the Founder Chairman, Al Haj A.W.M. Makeen, as the new Chairman of the Group. Milfer Makeen was actively involved in the business operations of Macksons Holdings. He served as the Deputy Chairman of the Group till the demise of Al Haj A.W.M. Makeen. He received his formative education from D.S. Senanayake College in Colombo. Under his vision the Group has diversified into various sectors to become a vibrant Sri Lankan business entity. Macksons Holdings was established in 1970 by its Founder Chairman, Al Haj A.W.M. Makeen. Its first business venture was the City Trading Company, which traded building materials and paints. Diversifying its business according to its Founder Chairman’s vision, a small-scale paint-manufacturing unit was set up in 1981. Thus, from its humble beginnings, the paint company has grown to among the top paint manufacturers in the country and also Sri Lanka’s largest paint exporter under the brand name ‘Multilac’. Further expanding its business scope, Macksons Holdings has ventured into various other sectors and is the market leader in the general hardware segment with Mans Lanka and Macks Marketing. These business entities cater to every nook and corner of the country by distributing popular brands such as Chillington Crocodile Mammoties, Havells, Switch Gear, MEN Power Tools, Morse Hacksaw Blades, Dorset Kaba Locks, Pakfans, Tramontina Tools, Jopex Taps, Joven Electric Heaters and over 10,000 varieties of hardware products sourced globally. Macksons Tiles Lanka Ltd. was established in 2012 with a fully automated state-of-the-art Italian production facility that manufactures tiles under the brand name of Macktiles. Among the other formidable manufacturers in the country, Macksons Tiles Lanka contributes to the Sri Lankan economy by strengthening the local Industry. Macksons Tiles Lanka is the third manufacturer in the market. Macksons Holdings recently ventured into the leisure sector by investing in state-of-the-art condominium project in the heart of Colombo. Further, Macksons has marked their presence in the plastics industry through Shimmzi Plastics Ltd., and also owns a chain of giftware outlets under the name The House of Gifts. Macksons Motors is the vehicle sales unit of Macksons Holdings. The Board of Macksons Holdings comprises Milfer Makeen (Group Chairman), Mizver Makeen (Group Managing Director), Shimmer Milfer (Group Chief Executive Officer) and Mizha Mizver Ismail (Group Chief Operating Officer). The third generation of the founder’s family has also joined the company already, to take forward his vision of building a socially responsible and morally ethical Sri Lankan business conglomerate.
