Magedara tea brews all time high price

At this week’s Tea Auction conducted on 27 September, an Invoice of the OP grade from Magedara Tea Factory established an All Time Colombo Tea Auction Record Price of Rs. 800 per Kg, bettering the previous record price of Rs. 790 which was recorded at the Auction of 13 September, 2011.

The tea was sold through the catalogue of Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd., and was purchased by Inter Tea Ltd., a leading buyer of Low Growns, amidst robust competition from two other large buyers who make purchases for the high-end Russian market.Magedara Tea factory is situated in Yakkalamulla in the Galle District and this factory has earned a reputation for manufacturing top quality grades that are sought after by discerning buyers who are prepared to pay up for Low Grown grades with good quality, make and style.

This factory is owned M.M.A. Wakeel who is also the owner of three other leading factories in the Galle District, i.e, Menikkanda, Golden Leaf and Kurunduwatta Tea Factories.

Wakeel has obtained ISO certification for all his factories, in addition to the prestigeous Star Ratings of the Sri Lanka Tea Board, and has invested heavily in modern equipment in his factories to ensure the production of top quality teas.
