Forum by AmCham & Stax Inc to showcase international perspective
Koshy Thomas from Finance Ministry Malaysia keynote speaker
The Government of Sri Lanka’s 5 hub strategy is to make Sri Lanka one of the top international shipping and logistics hub to facilitate trade and commerce along with services. Given this emerging environment and the legal reforms in place through an amendment to the finance act (hub provisions) of 2013, American Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka (AmCham) and Stax Inc. has taken an initiative to discuss international best practices, opportunities and challenges faced in the implementation of the hub strategy to further enlighten the local business community.
A luncheon meeting has been organised by the AmCham and Stax Inc. on the topic ‘Implementing the Hub Strategy: an International Perspective’. The luncheon meeting will take place on the 15 August at the Taj Samudra Hotel Crystal Lower from 11 a.m. onwards.
Keynote Speaker at the event will be Koshy Thomas – Head of Output based Budgeting Unit of the Ministry of Finance, Malaysia. Thomas has over 25 years of experience working with the Government of Malaysia with a wealth of experience in the area of implementation of the Hub Strategy.
Koshy is expected to address the Sri Lankan business community on following topics: Malaysian Economy in Perspective; Middle Income Syndrome; A Paradigm Shift; Hub Strategy in Sri Lanka with emphasis on Logistics Hub (Dimension of a mega port) and National Planning and Public Policy Private Sector Catalyst (Policy Dimension).
Following his presentation a panel discussion will take place, with eminent personalities of the industry who are now working with government to implement the Sri Lankan hub strategy.
They include Mangala Yapa, President National Chamber of Exporters (NCE), Tuli Cooray Secretary, General Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF), Hanif Yusoof CEO Expolanka Holdings Plc, and Arg Wignaraja senior advisor tax at Stax Inc.
The discussion will be moderated by Rohan Masakorala, CEO of the Shippers’ Academy Colombo.
