Maliban Milk held its Sales Convention 2011 with Distributors and Sales Representatives from all over the Island gathering at the Mount Lavinia Hotel.

The celebratory event was themed ‘We Are Family: Javayen Idiriyata’ and the main objective of the convention was the appreciation and recognition of the company’s invaluable Distributors and Sales Representatives.

The carefully selected theme for the event reflected the core values of Maliban Milk, their distributors and sales representatives. These values include friendship, warmth, camaraderie, team spirit, passion and, above all, a sense of family.

“Our Distributors all over Sri Lanka have their entire families involved in their business. Spouses and children of our employees assist with all aspects of the business, such as maintaining the warehouse or loading up the van for distribution. In that sense, they bring in the feeling of family to their work,” said Maliban Milk Head of Sales and Marketing Nalinda Jayamanne adding, “In addition, our relationship with our Distributors and Sales Representatives is solid, supportive and constant. Together, we make a tightly-knit team, which is the secret of our success.”

In the year 2011, Maliban Milk recorded the highest growth in the milk powder category, comprehensively beating their competition, including two multi-national companies.

Elaborating on the reasons for this success, Maliban Sales and Marketing CEO Ravi Jayawardena said, “It has been the passion and drive of our team. About three and a half years ago, we were at eighth position in the milk powder category. Today, thanks to the commitment and devotion of our Sales Representatives and Distributors, we occupy second place.”

One of the highlights of the Convention was the pledge given by Jayamanne and his team to Maliban Group CEO Lakshman Weerasuriya and the Board of Directors. The scroll was handed over in great ceremony and fanfare and included the targets and goals of Maliban Milk for the year 2012. “Our vision has always been to give the best quality product to our consumers at a reasonable price,” said Weerasuriya, “That was Maliban’s vision in its inception and it will continue to be upheld in the future.” Awards were presented to all distributors who had performed well over the preceding year. The different categories included small scale distributors (up to seven metric tons), medium scale distributors (seven to 15 metric tons) and large scale distributors (more than 15 metric tons). Dance and drumming acts as well as the song ‘We Are Family’ entertained the participants and added a colourful, upbeat note to the event, in which all engaged enthusiastically.

Maliban is a 60-year-old company and Maliban Milk was initiated 12 years ago. Over the last three years the average number of metric tons produced by the company dramatically increased from a two-digit figure to a sturdy four-digit figure. The company brings down its milk from Murray Goulburn, one of the foremost milk producers in Australia.

Maliban Milk has seven Quality Certifications to its credit, including its latest certificate for Good Manufacturing Practices. The other Quality Certifications are SLS, ISO 9001, ISO 22000, ISO 14001, HACCP and Halal.
