Mangala Yapa, President of the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE), stepped down from the position of President on 30 September to assume duties as the Secretary General/CEO of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce w.e.f. 1 October 2014.
Yapa, who is an engineer by profession, was the Managing Director of Colombo Dockyard Ltd., and carries with him vast experience in the field of ship building and ship repair services. He represented the company as a Member of the Chamber from February 1998.
He served as a member of the Management Committee of the Chamber from March 2009 until January 2010. He was elected as Vice President of the Chamber in February 2010 and thereafter as the President from January 2014, in which position he served until the end of September 2014.
In his capacity as the President of the Chamber, he also chaired the Sub Committees related to Finance, Budget, Export Awards and Branding Sri Lanka. He also functions as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Exports which is an Affiliate of the Chamber set up to provide training in export related subjects and to promote the field of exports as a profession.
Sarada de Silva, Senior Vice President of the Chamber now functions as the acting President until the next Annual General Meeting scheduled to be held on 29 January 2015 for the election of the Council and Office bearers of the Chamber for the ensuing year.
