Mannar Timex & Fergasam to start in early 2013

The forthcoming $ 5 m Timex & Fergasam Group (T&FG) apparel complex in Mannar will be completed by 2013.

“I commend T&FG’s new investments in Mannar and their speedy implementation of the project so that the plant is now slated to be completed by early 2013,” said Rishad Bathiudeen, Minister of Industry and Commerce on 15 October, having toured Mannar recently.

T&FG investment is the first ever BOI project to arrive in Mannar. The $ 5 m apparel factory complex is an initiative by T&FG, a manufacturer and exporter of high quality garments to the leading markets in the EU and USA.

According to the company sources, the newly building factory complex will be the18th and 19th manufacturing facilities to be set up by the apparel group.  

The factory complex will be designed for efficient production, with latest sanitary facilities, meeting areas, cafeteria, training school, lockers for employees and medical centre and the factory premises will be in compliance with all relevant fire and safety requirements. With this upcoming factory premises, employee conditions and living standards in the Mannar District will also improve over time.

T&FG expressed their gratitude to Minister Bathiudeen’s Industry Ministry for the support extended to us in the construction efforts.

Minister Bathiudeen initiated work on T&FG factory inside the Mannar Industrial Zone in 2007 January and announced: “The new BOI investment in Mannar starting today has set in motion the process for other BOI industries to enter here. Once the factory starts, initially 800 jobs will be generated. T & FG made the correct decision in choosing to come here.”

Timex and Fergasam Group is a leading Sri Lankan apparel producer within the top five apparel manufacturers of Sri Lanka. T&FG has won the 2006 NCE Export Award and the All Star Award 2007.
