Marina Lanka Ltd., a Sri Lankan company servicing the yachting industry – was a key feature at the World Marinas Conference (WMC) held in Istanbul, recently. One of Marina Lanka’s projects was featured in prime position by Arrol Ltd., the world’s No.1 independent marina consultancy firm – which had the largest exhibition at the WMC. The conference is a biennial gathering of top marina industry professionals from around the world and attracted more than 250 marina professionals to Istanbul. Managing Director of both Arrol Ltd and Marina Lanka Ltd Simon Arrol said that currently the Asian region was very much a focus of attention. “However, focus alone is not enough. One needs to really understand the underlying technical and financial aspects of marina and waterfront development, and this is a highly specialised field. Marina Lanka has brought this expertise to the Sri Lankan market during the past couple of years.” During the company’s two years of operation, the directors of Marina Lanka have appraised numerous sites around the coast of Sri Lanka as well as canals that lead to the sea, and are currently moving forward with a short-list of projects. “Our marinas initiative has received support from the Government,” says Arrol. “Marinas are the essential infrastructure that will enable the growth of the country’s boating and boat-building sector, and that will bring about a substantial boost to tourism.”
