Good quality standard leads to long existence of products

Mega Heaters Ltd., which begun as a self-employment project in 1976, is today the proud manufacturer of a quality product, ‘Mega’ brand immersion heaters and industrial heating appliances. Mega immersion heaters and industrial heating appliances are in great demand locally having established a reputation for quality that is up to international standards and it has become the market leader in the heating industry in Sri Lanka today. “There should be a good quality standard for a good product to have a long existence. Until 1993 there wasn’t a much competition with our product but with the beginning of the Chinese productions there was a huge competition for the brands and we succeed with our high-quality products. We manufacture all sorts of sorts of heaters, actually now we have covered almost 70% market share of heaters in Sri Lanka. We have the technology, materials and knowledge which are the main stuff of a good, quality end of a product and now we have been able to save 80% foreign currency in our country,” said Mega Heaters Ltd. Managing Director Upali Jayasekara. Surprisingly the price is much lower than that of imported heaters. The high quality of the Mega immersion heaters is achieved

through the use of the best material for its manufacture. The element is formed with metal wire called Kanthal from Sweden while the metal tubes are imported from Great Britain, Singapore, Korea and Malaysia. The magnetic oxide and the finest grade of quality quartz from Sri Lanka are used for the silica insulation and the guarantee is absolute safety. Mega Heaters employs time-proven technology and computer aided design in its manufacturing process. The product is constantly checked to guarantee perfection at every stage of manufacture and assembly. The workforce is highly skilled and possesses long experience on the job. These factors provide a product that is both reliable and durable, the hallmark of the Mega immersion heater. Mega as a brand has achieved a great victory in exporting an oven to China recently, he noted. “We made an oven for a Sweden based company in Sri Lanka and via that we got a chance to export an oven for a leading tyre company in the world today due to our excellence with the products. This is what we need to improve, we have got a large capacity with us. For example we produce nearly 20,000 small heaters now per a month to the Sri Lankan market, but we can perform more than twice, therefore we have to direct towards the international market. We are planning to export all our products to countries like India and we have already started exporting to Bangladesh. We are planning to improve this year mainly focusing on these international markets because this is what our country needs, a production-based economy. We can save a lot of foreign exchange, but the major problem is taxes, so I would like to ask the Government to help companies like us, which will be a great investment for a production economy. As our name Mega implies, we have reached mega proportions in relation to reputation, quality and popularity of our immersion heaters and industrial heating elements.” “We have innovated new products for the fresh milk industry. The product has developed to boil fresh milk and keep warm for many hours; this has given tremendous support to promote fresh milk around the country. We supply these products to NLDB, MILCO, the Department of Animal Products and Health and dairy producers. A lot of imported industrial heating elements were used by factories and they are now inclined to come to us and get better quality heaters for very much lower prices and save a huge amount of foreign currency. When you import heating elements you can’t get any guarantee but when you come to us we give a guarantee for the electric product like heating elements. Further, we always guide our customers to get the right product for their requirements. This means we have become a solution provider for the heating industry. We offer our consultancy service free of charge,” he added. Mega Heaters designs all kind of heaters including immersion water heaters, oven elements, oil heaters, air heaters, cartridge heaters, steam boiler elements, defrost heaters, mica strip and band heaters, nozzle heaters, heating plate and disk, ceramic and quarts heaters, Teflon tubular heaters, and titanium tubular heaters, kettle elements, water boiler elements, etc. It also has industrial oven design, heating room, heating box and other tailor made equipment rating to the heating as per clients’ requirements. There are also industrial electric water boilers, water boilers, kettles, milk warmers, milk boilers, tea warmers and boilers, rice boilers, etc. Accessories such as temperature controllers, thermocouples, thermo meters, level sensors, thermostat controllers, all size of heating wires, thermocouple wires, heat resistance wires, mica sheet and ceramic tubes are also available. “We also organise CSR projects for the welfare of temples, sports clubs and the Young Men’s Buddhist Association (YMBA) Kottawa as well as lesser privileged people. We received the Bronze award – Provincial and National level in the Large Scale Category and we were awarded the same for the Medium Scale Category in 2012,” Jayasekara added.
