Thirteen years after it ventured into memory solutions for Sri Lanka’s rapidly-evolving IT sector, Memory Technologies (Pvt) Ltd. has grown the size of its business tenfold, achieving solid year-on-year growth throughout its existence.

Commencing operations on 1 July 1998 as an authorised distributor for the globally-renowned Silicon Valley brand ‘Kingston,’ the company has kept pace with the growth in the use of computers in the country and has established itself as the leading supplier of memory products to the IT market in Sri Lanka.

Its products have evolved exponentially – from Random Access Memory (RAM) chips of 128mb to today’s DDR3 RAM chips of up to 4GB; USB flash drives of 256MB that have progressed to data travellers of 256GB; MicroSD memory cards of 1GB that have been replaced by High Capacity versions of 32GB – and the portfolio has expanded with new products like the latest NAND flash SSDNow solid state hard disks from Kingston.

“The past 13 years have been mercurial for IT, and memory products have been one of the fastest to develop,” Memory Technologies founder and Managing Director Suresh Wijesinghe said. “Keeping pace with evolving technology and helping users to migrate to newer products while providing comprehensive service back-up has been the formula that has kept the business growing and helped us retain and build our client base.”

The company has grown from four employees at its inception to 30 today, and has appointed a network of 70 dealers for its products. Its head office and service centre in Colombo 3 processes all warranty claims, and a warranty centre to service the southern region is being set up, Wijesinghe said.

In a message to the company on its 13th anniversary, Scott Chen, Vice President-Asia Pacific Region at Kingston Technology said: “It’s been a great pleasure partnering with Memory Technologies in Sri Lanka. With a wide network of dealers, deep knowledge of this industry, and market insights, Memory Technologies has been a strong support to Kingston, not only to offer complete products availability in the local market but also to achieve sustainable market growths for years. In the future, Kingston will continue its commitments to local market with the full support from the authorised distributor, Memory Technologies.”  Memory Technologies now serves some of the largest corporate entities in Sri Lanka, many of which have been with the company since its inception. Among its key clients are the MAS Group of companies to which Memory Technologies has provided memory supplies valued at over Rs. 2 million and Brandix Group, John Keells and HNB to name a few.

In an innovative move to enable customers to conveniently claim warranties, the company has launched its ‘Warranty Direct’ programme through which customers can directly obtain warranty claims from dealers of Kingston products authorised by the company.

Memory Technologies offers an array of value added services to its clients including free installation of computer RAMs.

The company maintains an extensive stock of Kingston memory products and is capable of delivering products that are not in stock in less than a week at the request of a customer.

Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Fountain Valley, California, Kingston Technology Company Inc. is the world’s largest independent manufacturer of memory products.

A global company whose revenue exceeds $ 4 million, Kingston offers an extensive line of computer memory and digital media products. The company has ISO 9001 certified manufacturing facilities in USA, Taiwan, Malaysia and China.
