Milk powder importers have jointly written a letter to the Consumer Affairs Authority that they will further limit the import of milk food due to losses. The milk powder companies have pointed out that they are losing around Rs. 110 per 400 gram milk powder packet, and they will not be able to continue sales with this loss as milk food prices have escalated in the world market. They also pointed out that further slash of imports may worsen the shortage. The milk powder importers note that the Government had turned down the request of the companies to reduce the prices when the price was down in the world market. They said that the Government had imposed more taxes them instead of reducing the price. The Government levies Rs. 140 per one kilo packet of milk powder and Rs. 55 per 400 gram packet, the companies said.
