Special Assignments Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama left for China and Thailand on Monday 22 August, leading an official delegation on a study tour of Chinese built industrial parks. The 14 other members of the delegation are senior officials including the District Secretaries of Hambantota, Matara, Moneragala, other district and divisional level officials of these districts and officials representing the Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade, Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development, BOI, CEB, NWS&DB and the Southern Development Authority.
This study tour which is taking place on the invitation of the Government of the People’s Republic of China is a sequel to the inspection tour recently undertaken at Hambantota by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Minister Malik Samarawickrama and Minister Amunugama together with the Chinese Ambassador, on the proposed mega industrial park and other proposed Chinese investments in the South.
The study team will visit Chongquin in China and the Rayong Industrial Park in Thailand. They will seek to learn from the Chinese experience in the construction, management and comprehensive development of industrial parks. The Minister and the officials expect to return to Sri Lanka on 28 August.
