At this meeting, opportunities for future collaboration with JASTECA and MLIT were discussed in detail. JASTECA President Athulla Edirisinghe explained to the Vice Minister the opportunities that can be made available to the Ministry through the network of alumni members of JASTECA which spans over 3,500 and have had their training in Japan especially on Japanese style of management.
On the request of the Vice Minister, a detailed explanation was given on the initiatives taken by JASTECA to introduce and propagate Japanese management systems that have become quite popular in Sri Lanka. The Vice Minister was especially interested in knowing the role played by Japanese Language Education Association of JASTECA in teaching Japanese language to young Sri Lankans and JASTECA Institute of Management (JIM) in conducting Management Training Programs.
Edirisinghe gave details of possibilities of future collaboration between MLIT and JASTECA in providing Human Resource Development and Training in specialised fields. He further stated that JASTECA, through its competent alumni members can undertake special skills development programs in case Sri Lankan manpower is sought for future needs of Japan, for e.g. to meet the demand for manpower for Olympics 2020 and caregivers needed in Japan.
He further explained the strengths JASTECA members have in undertaking feasibility studies of various projects and the support JASTECA can offer through its alumni in locating suitable Sri Lankan collaborators for Japanese trading and investment partners.
On behalf of JASTECA, Edirisinghe thanked the Vice Minister for his Ministry’s contribution towards the Colombo City Master plan which will eventually result in minimising the traffic congestion in the city and stated that millions of Sri Lankans will be grateful to Japan for this gesture.
