MMBL-Pathfinder examines investment options and challenges for the new year

The MMBL Pathfinder Group office complex in Peliyagoda held a simple ceremony to mark the new year and begin discussion of their business and investment plan.
Group Chairperson Y.N. Perera was the event’s Chief Guest while founder Milinda Moragoda, Jennifer Moragoda and Deputy Chairman Deshamanya M. D. D. Pieris were the other honoured guests in attendance.
MMBL-Pathfinder Group Director and CEO K. Balasundaram spoke of the interest of his group of companies in developing during the new year. In this regard, he cited the Yarl Hotel project, a joint venture between the MMBL-Pathfinder Group and the Jetwing Group, which will infuse in excess of Rs. 1 billion in the project in the city of Jaffna and is due to be completed this year, while also mentioning the interest of the MMBL group in injecting Rs. 600 million in another hotel project in the sparsely-populated island of Delft.
He briefed the staff that the company’s new and innovative business model for its centres in niche investments in sectors with potential for high growth had won the company the 5S Workplace Management System’s international certificate last year, the first for a Sri Lankan company.
This year the group has identified many sectors which offer attractive value-investment opportunities including financial services, business logistics, trading and distribution, property development, petroleum-related services, quality assurance services, aviation, agriculture and the hospitality sector. Balasundaran added that MMBL-Pathfinder had to face many challenges but with a little creativity it could realise its potential for high growth.
