Professor Veerle Heyvaert, Associate Professor (Reader) of Environmental Law and European Law at the London School of Economics, will be conducting a series of workshops at the Sir John Kotalawela Defence University (KDU) on 24 August to 1 September on International Environmental Law. She will also be a Presenter and Session Chair at the eighth International Research Conference organised by the KDU on 27 and 28 August.
Professor Heyvaert has an LL.M. from Harvard Law School and a PhD from the European University Institute in Florence (It). She has published extensively on issues of transnational environmental law and risk regulation and she is also a Founding Editor-in-Chief of ‘Transnational Environmental Law’, a peer-reviewed journal published by the Cambridge University Press. Her current research interests cover international environmental law and questions of compliance with international commitments, new developments in European environmental law, and in particular the reform of the EU regulatory framework for chemicals control.
Professor Heyvaert will be conducting these workshops at the invitation of the Moragoda International Law Trust, established by Dr. Moragodage Christopher Walter Pinto, a Sri Lankan lawyer and former diplomat, with the objective of advancement, promotion and furtherance of education or knowledge in the field of International Law with particular emphasis on the sphere of Public International Law.
This series of workshops marks the second time that the Trustees of the Moragoda International Law Trust, Jacey Trust Services Ltd., the Trustee arm of M/s Julius and Creasy, Attorneys-At- Law and Notaries Public, has organised a knowledge sharing endeavour of this nature in pursuance of the ‘Moragoda Endowment Professor of Public International Law’ established in collaboration with the KDU, having invited Professor Terry Gill of the University of Amsterdam to conduct a series of workshops on International Humanitarian Law in August 2014.
