“More joint ventures between Sri Lanka and Malaysia” SLMBC President

The 18th Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka-Malaysia Business Council was held at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently. The council, which focuses on the objectives of ‘promoting investment, trade and joint ventures between Sri Lanka and Malaysia,’ functions under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.



High Commissioner for Malaysia in Sri Lanka and Chief Guest Azmi Zainuddin in his speech stated that he looked forward to future support of the council for various activities, adding that the High Commission looked forward to support the council in all its activities.

Dushy Jayaweera, Director/General Manager, Hemas Air Services (Pvt) Ltd., was elected to continue as the President of the Council for the year 2012/2013. She mentioned that the incoming committee would encourage more joint ventures between Sri Lanka and Malaysia, exchange information on trade and investment, conduct joint meetings with Malaysian business organisations in Sri Lanka and Malaysia and serve as a recognised representative of business sector interests in Sri Lanka.

Nilrukshi De Silva, Head of Business Development, Macksons Paints Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., and Manjula Thawalampitiya, Senior Vice President – Finance and Administration, Epic Lanka Group, were appointed as Vice Presidents.

Nazvi Hassan, Group Marketing Manager- Exports, Chemanex Limited, Keerthi Jayasuriya, Chairman/CEO, International Scholar Educational Services (Pvt) Ltd., Ramanan David, General Manager, Dialog Axiata PLC, Fairoze Burah, Head of Administration, Amana Bank Limited, Khalid Farouk, Director, Ilham – Inspiration Sri Lanka, Angelo Fernando, Country Head, Public Bank Berhad, Tony Wazir, Director, Sena Gems Trading House (Pvt) Ltd., Aashiq Lafir, Executive Director – Finance, United Motors Lanka PLC, Siran Wijeyesakare, General Manager (Rubber), Pussellawa Plantations Limited, Archt. Ranjan Nadesapillai, Principal Architect, Ranjan Nadesapillai Associates, Nirmali Samaratunga, Co-Chairperson/Joint Managing Director, Mackwoods Ltd., and Tilak N. Gunawardena, Attorney-at-Law, were elected to the Committee.

Membership of the council is open to individual persons, partnerships, companies, corporations or other organisations engaged in trade, tourism or services with Malaysia or engaged in joint ventures with Malaysian organisations or interested in entering into or promoting trade, tourism, services or joint ventures with Malaysian organisations.
