MTD Walkers draws on MTI to strategise future direction

MTD Walkers PLC, with its subsidiary companies, CML-MTD Construction, Northern Power Company, Walkers Piling and Walker Sons and Co. Engineers, is engaged in multidisciplinary infrastructure activities locally and overseas. The company’s high growth operations include large scale civil, mechanical and electrical engineering work, pile construction, power generation, manufacture of machinery for the plantations industry and building services. MTD Walkers PLC is a heritage firm, being the seventh oldest company in Sri Lanka and has been in operation since 1854. Marking an extraordinary financial performance, the company closed its 2014 financial year by quadrupling its revenue with a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 40% since 2010, which is 413% in absolute growth over the last 5 years. MTD Walkers also reached the milestone of Rs. 10 billion revenue for the year ending 31 March 2014 and is projecting to maintain this revenue growth rate. Speaking at the Kickoff Session, Group Executive Deputy Chairman of MTD Walkers PLC, Jehan Amaratunga said: “The economic growth and increase in investments will continue to drive the construction sector as a whole. The sustained investment in large infrastructure projects will continue to drive revenue growth for us and we expect to leverage on our strength as the only infrastructure developer able to perform the entire spectrum of infrastructure development activities to continue beating the industry growth numbers. “We have forged ambitious growth plans, and to realise these plans, we need to operate with a holistic view of projects and align the organisation to maximise the profit conversion of this spectacular revenue growth. The creation of shareholder wealth through this programme and other initiatives already underway will reflect on our share price over the next few quarters.” He elaborated that MTD Walkers PLC is pleased to work with MTI Consulting and MTI’s Bahrain-based CEO Hilmy Cader who have impressive credentials in strategic planning, both in Sri Lanka and the region. This strategic planning exercise which is based on MTI’s 8S Strategising Model, was presented by Cader to the senior management of MTD Walkers PLC during the Kickoff session held at Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo last week.
