Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. has won the coveted ‘Quest for Excellence’ Award in the Large Manufacturing Category at the prestigious Global Performance Excellence Awards (GPEA). The ceremony was held in Bali, Indonesia recently. The Quest for Excellence Award is given to those who have scored on par with the requirements to be considered a world-class organisation. “We are proud to receive this international award, which recognises organisations that consistently strive for excellence. At CBL we constantly adapt to meet our customers’ needs, consistently visiting international food and beverage exhibitions so that we are always up to date with emerging trends in customer appetites. This flexibility and more importantly, focus on quality has led to CBL being recognised for its superior performance,” said CBL Group Quality Assurance Manager Anura Senaratne. The GPEA is a formal internationally renowned recognition of business excellence conducted by the Asia Pacific Quality Organisation (APQO). It helps to strengthen the strategies and performance of organisations to succeed in a fast evolving global market place. The GPEA process promotes awareness in performance excellence as an increasingly important tool in competitiveness towards global business success and sustainability. A total of 127 organisations have received the award from various categories since year 2000. In 2010, the name of the award was changed from Asia Pacific Quality Award to Global Performance Excellence Award to illustrate a shift in focus; from being merely about products and services to encompassing overall organisational performance. Trained Malcolm Balridge Award Examiners evaluate the candidates on seven categories – leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, measurement analysis and knowledge management, workforce focus, operation focus and results. Part of the evaluation criteria includes a feedback or site visit report – all the criteria are set by the established Malcolm Balridge National Quality Association (MBNQA) in the United States. The Awards are administered by the Asia Pacific Quality Organisation (APQO), a non-profit organisation which serves as a nexus for all quality professional societies in the Asia Pacific Rim.
