The newly-elected President of the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE), Ramal Jasinghe, Secretary General/CEO Shiham Marikar and other officials met Development Strategies and International Trade State Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe at his office.
Matters related to international trade, specifically how NCE could complement the program to identify and empower 2,000 entrepreneurs in the provinces which will enable the increase and diversification of Sri Lankan exports, were discussed at length.
In this regard Minister Senasinghe also emphasised the importance of identifying and working closely with entrepreneurs in the electronic field in view of the potential of this sector for economic development and employment creation as per the experience of leading countries in Asia.
The officials of the chamber pointed out the necessity of linking procurers with exporters to supply and produce semi-finished goods for export purposes.
Senasinghe has indicated that many women entrepreneurs have been identified through various programs and he could organise an exhibition to enable them to display their products. He requested the chamber to invite member exporters to inspect the products and build mutually beneficial business linkages. He also emphasised the need to provide training in marketing, branding and packaging to identify women entrepreneurs.
The NCE President informed the Minister that the chamber had begun working closely with the relevant ministries and will be interested in the dissemination of information to member companies through ministry communications related to the export sector. He also assured the support of the chamber to achieve export and economic development objectives and the targets of the Government..
