An awareness seminar on an innovative fast-moving area of science today – nanotechnology – will be held on Tuesday 28 October from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the chamber auditorium, 450 D.R. Wijewardene Mw, Colombo 10, organised by the National Chamber of Commerce in association with Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC). The resource persons will be from SLINTEC- Harsha de S. Wijeratne, CEO; Prof. Veranja Karunaratne, Associate Director – Science and Strategic Relations; and Dr. Shehan de Silva, Manager Strategic Planning/Senior Scientist/Doctor of Nanotechnology. They will explain in detail the benefits of nanotechnology that could be derived by all sectors of industry, such as textiles, apparel, agriculture, ceramic, healthcare, ICT, manufacturing beauty care, etc. Nanotechnology is the art and science of manipulating atoms and molecules, shrunk down to a small scale to create new systems, materials and devices. Making new things on this incredibly small scale is called nanotechnology, which will offer companies new and improved products and processes to innovate and enter new markets. Nanotechnology is changing the world and the way we live, creating scientific advances and new products that are smaller, faster, stronger, safer, and more reliable. Sri Lanka’s first Nanotechnology Research Centre and Nanoscience Park was opened last year, set up on a 50 acre land in Pitipana, Homagama, and established with Government and private sector participation. The nanotechnology park aims to create opportunities for all businesses to develop new products through a collaborative innovation process, taking them from research through development towards commercialisation. For reservation for the seminar kindly contact the Chamber TP 4741788 or email [email protected].
