National Chamber warmly welcomes new President Maithripala Sirisena

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka in a statement congratulated Maithripala Sirisena the new President of Sri Lanka and Ranil Wickremasinghe the new Prime Minister on their appointments, and wishes them all success. The Chamber said it appreciated the smooth transition of power and lauds the outgoing President for promptly accepting the verdict of the people and making arrangements for the new regime to take over. The Chamber particularly wishes to congratulate the Commissioner of Elections for the exemplary conduct of the Presidential Elections and for the firm stand taken to ensure the democratic process and the will of the people prevailed. Sri Lanka has made rapid progress in the last few years and we note that the new Government is determined to take further steps to ensure good governance, transparency, strengthening of independent institutions and the establishment of the rule of law. The National Chamber will provide its fullest support for these initiatives. The National Chamber welcomes with great interest the establishment of a National Advisory Council, which will further promote democracy. The Chamber wishes to state that with its over 630 members it is a reservoir of knowledge and experience, and urges the new Government to consult the National Chamber as well as all chambers in its policy making process, to ensure that all such policies are well thought out and have a greater probability of acceptance.
