The National Chamber of Commerce will conduct a one day workshop on ‘Import Procedures & Documentation’ on Saturday 14 February from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Chamber Auditorium No. 450 D. R Wijewardene Mw, Colombo 10.
The workshop is designed for those who are involved in importing, buying and sourcing from overseas. It provides an overview of the principles involved in successful importing, tips on how to avoid problems and ensure smooth running of contracts, profitably.
Some of the subjects that would be discussed will be import administration steps, Customs clearance at import, how duty and other levies are calculated; temporary import schemes in operation – including duty rebate scheme; payment terms with regard to imports; Incoterms 2010; regulations pertaining to imports and issuance of licenses for imports; trade policy; and role of the import/export controller.
The resource person will be J.A.D.A. Perera, Deputy Director of Customs, Sri Lanka Customs who has over 30 years of experience at Sri Lanka Customs in various departments.
Participants will get an understanding to seek quotations and place orders efficiently, ensure correct documentation for customs clearance into Sri Lanka including VAT compliance and complete costing. It will be beneficial for those involved in sourcing goods from overseas, including sales, purchasing, production and accounts staff. It also provides a good overview necessary for senior managers who have to delegate responsibility.
