National Research and Development Proposals illustrating the research and development activities and setting guidelines for the process of Sri Lanka’s national development, was presented to President Maithripala Sirisena at the President’s official residence on Tuesday.
The National Science and Technology Commission (NASTEC) took the lead in formulating these proposals and Sri Lankan scientists, technologists, social scientists and scholars has also given their advices and guidance for this mission.
The new set of proposals was presented to the President by the former Chairman of the NASTEC, Prof. Dhammika A. Tantrigoda in the presence of Minister of Science, Technology and Research, Susil Premajayantha, and State Minister Lakshman Seneviratne.
These proposals was formulated taking into the consideration of ten fields, in which science and technology should make its contribution to find solutions to the problems faced in the development process.
President Sirisena gave instructions to hold discussions with relevant heads of institutions for each and every selected subject and to take further steps required in this development process.
